(this introduction uses the cartoon animals from a family-friendly leaflet I was commissioned to write!)

"Earthwords produces stuff", said Shawn the Prawn.

Shawn the Prawn, Faye Cops the Trilobite and Wimpy the Shrimp discuss Earthwords' activities.

"Innovative interpretation", said Wimpy the Shrimp. "And lots more: guidebooks, strategies, dictionaries, educational material, editing, lectures, seminars, walks for kids, hands-on events and geodiversity audits."

"Coo", said Faye Cops the Trilobite, in a broad Devonian accent. "Can I have a hands-on, Shawn?", she whispered, as she blushed red.

Shawn ignored this - Faye Cops could wait. He had outgrown his rock-pool and was a prawn about town now. "People can read a story about us on the beach, Faye."

"Oh, Shawn", Faye Cops blushed deeper red. "It's been such a long time", she sighed.

The pregnant atmosphere passed Wimpy by. "We can go and watch a slideshow", he said brightly.

If you only wish to see examples of the range of writing I do, and who has commissioned me, please go straight to the portfolio.  I (John Macadam) only have ideas, research, write and take some of the photographs: others design, paint, do the cartoons, translate, sometimes edit, and also take the rest of the photographs.  Despite the happy beach scene above, very little of the work I do involves cartoon characters discussing geology!  But whatever the output and whatever the media I hope it is all good quality, probably distinctive, and also good value.  And if the output is interpretation (guides, trails, panels, etc) for the general public it is tested  by the general public - in draft, long before production! And each new draft gets tested too. It is, of course, run past other geologists to ensure that my 'dumbing down' has still left a text with scientific integrity.

The 'story'  and  'such a long time' come from the leaflet. Shawn the Prawn was invented by Meirel Whaites, Faye Cops the Trilobite and Wimpy the Shrimp by John Macadam.
